How Infrared Saunas Work
Five steps: (1) panel emits far-infrared, (2) skin absorbs it as radiant heat, (3) warmed blood circulates deeper, (4) core temp rises ~1–2°C, (5) body responds — heart rate up, vessels dilate, sweat, heat-shock proteins, endorphins. Like a campfire warming your face without heating air.[1]
Timeline
0–5 min: skin warming facing panels. 5–15 min: deepening warmth, heart rate climbs. 10–20 min: sweat begins, muscles relax. 15–30 min: full sweat + cardiovascular response. Sessions <15 min may not fully engage the cascade; typical 20–35 min at 135–145°F after preheat.[1]
History note
Radiant heat baths date to John Harvey Kellogg (1891); Japan revived low-temp infrared as Waon therapy (60°C/140°F) in the 1970s–2000s. Modern far-IR cabins are century-old physics with modern controls — not a fad.[1][2]
